About Chef Anita
Anita Burroughs is the chef/owner of The Everyday Gourmet, a business that she founded in 2003. She received her training as a personal chef through the Culinary Business Academy, and is an active member of the United States Personal Chef Association. The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation has certified Anita as a ServSafe® Food Protection Manager.
Anita is a self-taught gourmand who has been cooking for over twenty five years, perfecting a large repertoire of "killer recipes". All of these recipes are tried and true, and is one of the reasons that her food is considered to be exceptional. Anita has catered hundreds of events ranging from romantic dinners for two to events for 125 people, and her food and service consistently garners rave reviews.
Anita had been in the jewelry business when she made a decision to change career paths. Her mother Leonora was struggling to care for her ill husband Irving and clearly needed help in the kitchen. Anita and her brother Mitch scoured the internet for someone who might be able to assist their mother in providing nutritious meals for their father. Anita stumbled upon a woman from her parent’s home town in Florida who was a personal chef, who was ultimately hired to assist her parents.
The personal chef was a blessing, enabling her mother to focus on providing care to her husband and not having to worry about meals. The personal chef came into the home and prepared the food on-site, and the couple would have enough food on hand for two weeks at a time. Anita had a moment of epiphany and realized that being a personal chef was her calling. She enrolled in the same school where her mom’s personal chef had trained, and The Everyday Gourmet was born, specializing in catering intimate events.
Anita has cooked for thousands of people in New England over the years, and has catered everything from outdoor barbecues, corporate events, format sit down dinners, buffets, wedding events, baby and bridal showers, and cocktail parties. Anita's client's have diverse tastes in food, ranging from traditional comfort foods such as chicken pot pie, old-fashioned macaroni and cheese, or turkey meatloaf, to exotic ethnic foods such as Sticky Rice with Coconut Milk and Mango, to gourmet fare such as Roasted Salmon with Ginger on a Bed of Celery Root Puree. Regardless of which types of food you enjoy, Anita will customize a menu for you and your guests so that you'll know that you're getting dishes you will love.
Anita has been living in the Mount Washington Valley with her husband for over fifteen years, and both she and Jon are active in community life. She is a founding board member of the Conway Area Humane Society, which opened its doors in 2004. Anita and Jonathan are “owned” by a two cats and a licensed therapy dog named Butterscotch, who is a volunteer at the local hospital and the Gibson Center for Senior Citizens. The couple also occasionally foster dogs for the New England Brittany Rescue, and they are always eager to help an animal in need.
